President of Al-Azhar University: Document on Human Fraternity Brought Africa, Europe and Asia together
Prof. Muhammad Al-Mahrasawy, President of Al-Azhar University, affirmed that Al-Ahzar institution, headed by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad Muhammad At-Tayyeb, earnestly endeavors to serve humanity regardless of color, gender, race or faith.
Al-Mahrasawy, during his meeting with Dr. Ahmed Al-Garwan, President of Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, and his accompanying delegation, highlighted that more than 100 countries worldwide sent their students to Al-Azhar University where they could gain authentic knowledge and learn moderation. When these students return to their countries, they become Al-Azhar ambassadors as they spread tolerance and moderation.
In addition, he pointed to the fact that signing the Document on Human Fraternity in Abu Dhabi has great significance since it brings together 3 continents; Africa represented by Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif in Egypt, Europe represented by Pope Francis, Head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City in Rome and Asia represented by Abu Dhabi where the document was signed. This reflects cooperation is possible between the East and the West as well as the North and the South. The fact that the Document on Human Fraternity brought together Africa, Europe and Asia proves that “We can work together”.
Moreover, Dr. Al-Garwan praised efforts exerted by the institution of Al-Azhar headed by the Grand Imam on the domestic, regional and international levels. He highlighted that the world needs tolerance and discarding violence nowadays. He also pointed to the fact that the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace allocated postgraduate scholarships on the topic of tolerance, discarding violence and ideological extremism worldwide. Finally, he commended efforts exerted by Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif and expressed his willingness to cooperate with Al-Azhar institution owing to its long-standing history.
