WAAG Branches Abroad React to “Nations without Terrorism” Initiative

The Branches of the World Organization for al-Azhar Graduates (WAAG) abroad convened several seminars and symposiums to discuss the topics and the objectives of “Nations without Terrorism” Initiative, launched by the Organization early this month.
In such vein, WOAG branch in Chad organized a series of seminars under the same title of the initiative. The first seminar was convened at al-Sheikh Nour mosque in N’Djamena city, where 250 of religious men and tribal chiefs attended such event. The seminar discussed several topics including: the effective methods to eradicate terrorism, how to protect the society against the extremist ideologies that distort the tolerant image of Islam, as well as the mechanism of abolishing the infamous trend of linking extremism to Islam.
The second seminar was organized at Dar-Tomay secondary school in N’Djamena city, attended by 60 students, and was run by Abdul Kareem Issa, member of WOAG branch in Chad. Abdul Kareem stressed in his word that the extremist groups are the true corruptors who destruct the public and private properties and incite tribal conflicts all over the country, just to impose their power and their deviant thoughts, as well as establishing their alleged “Caliphate”, by force. The lecturer called upon the attendees to exert their efforts in order to preserve the security and the stability of their homeland, and to be keen to learn about religion from scholars who follow the moderate approach, where the most prominent of them are al-Azhar scholars.
In the same context, WOAG branch in Pakistan organized a symposium under the title of “A Nation without Terrorism” in Pattoki city, where 200 students of Islamic schools (Madrasahs) and a number of the city’s inhabitants attended the event. Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Ashraf al-Azhari, the Secretary General of WOAG Branch in Pakistan, gave a word about the danger of the promoters of extremism in the name of Islam and how to confront them. Additionally, the lecturer highlighted the necessity of raising the society’s awareness about the national security issues, as well as protecting the youth against adopting the corrupted ideologies and deviant religious discourse. The lecturer concluded his word by stressing that each member of the society is responsible for confronting and challenging the extremist ideas, in order to protect the country and preserve its security.
